As part of its continuing education, the officers of HPPECC attended the Cooperative Management and Governance Course held at 10F Two Cyberpod on Aug 3, 2019. As one of the trainings mandated by the CDA (Cooperative Development Authority) for cooperative officers, the course aims to equip cooperative officers and management the skills necessary in the effective operation of their cooperative as an economic and social enterprise. Among the topics discussed include good governance principles and practices, duties and responsibilities of officers and management, meeting management, financial management, HR, and the various laws relevant to cooperatives.
The course was conducted by Ms. Nonalyn Hermogenes, a CDA-accreddited trainer with almost 30 years of experience in the cooperative movement.
In its effort to promote not just financial wellness but physical wellness as well, the HPP Employees Credit Cooperative has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with Amazing Nature Care International (ANCI) to be a distributor of various ANCI products made from Stevia, an herbal plant that has been proven to provide many health benefits including lower blood pressure, diabetes control, weight loss, cancer prevention, lower cholesterol levels, oral health, skin care, and osteoporosis prevention, among others. Sound familiar? They say it's human nature to complain. They may be right but no matter how small or big your salary is, if you lack discipline, no amount of salary will ever be enough. Elizabeth Warren, a US Senator and professor at Harvard University specializing in bankrupcy law, created what is known as the 50/30/20 Rule. Simply put, the rule advises you to spend your monthly income in 3 categories:
The beauty of this rule is that it's both simple enough to follow yet powerful enough to help you achieve financial stability. It helps you handle unexpected expenses while at the same time prepare you for the future. If you're not sure how to start your budgeting strategy, try this. You can always adjust the percentages that's more suited to your current situation but it's a good place to start. It allows you to balance between your obligations, your long term goals, as well as your splurges. And at least with a rule like this, you know where you are over-spending.
Of course if all else fail, there's always HPPECC. :-)
